Drain keeps its core activity local across Android, Chrome, and Firefox. The Android app uses Google Mobile Ads; the browser extensions have no ads, analytics, or accounts.

Policy 01

Drain for Android

This section applies only to the Android app. References to screen capture, Accessibility, overlays, and Google Mobile Ads do not apply to the Chrome or Firefox extensions.

1. Information We Do Not Collect (Zero-Data Policy)

Drain operates locally on your device. We do not run any remote backend databases or analytics servers to track your activity.

  • No Screen Recording Storage: While Drain uses the Android MediaProjection API to calculate and apply visual filters, it never records, saves, or transmits your screen content. All screen capture analysis happens in volatile memory (RAM) and is immediately discarded.
  • No App Tracking History: The list of target apps you choose to filter is stored locally on your device and is never uploaded.
  • No Input Monitoring: Drain does not monitor, log, or store your keystrokes, password entries, messages, or search terms.

2. Device Permissions & Data Handling

Drain requests specific permissions to operate its visual filters. All data processed via these permissions remains strictly on your device:

  • Accessibility Service: If enabled, we use this service to detect when your chosen target apps are opened or closed in the foreground so the filter can start and stop automatically. We do not read screen contents, collect personal data, or transmit information via this service.
  • Display Over Other Apps (Overlay): Used to render the visual filter (e.g., grayscale overlay) on top of target apps.
  • MediaProjection (Screen Capture): Used to calculate the visual filter effect. This is only started after you click the system confirmation prompt, and no data is saved or sent.

3. Third-Party Services & Advertising SDKs

Drain displays advertisements to support ongoing development. Even though the core application code collects zero personal data, the Google Mobile Ads SDK integrated into our app automatically collects and shares certain information for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention purposes.

Specifically, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may automatically collect and process:

  • IP Address: Used to estimate general location for ad delivery, diagnostics, and fraud prevention.
  • User Interactions: Actions such as ad clicks, views, and app launch events to analyze ad performance and personalization.
  • Diagnostic and Performance Data: Crash logs, app latency metrics, and diagnostic logs for performance monitoring.
  • Device and Advertising Identifiers: Your device's advertising ID (such as the Google Play Services advertising ID), device manufacturer, model, and OS version.

This data is processed directly by Google according to its own policies. You can learn more about how Google handles this data at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

4. Security

Since all configuration, settings, and filter logic run locally, your data is as secure as your Android device itself. We use standard Android sandbox security to keep your settings private.

Policy 02

Drain for Chrome & Firefox

This section applies to the Drain browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox. These extensions have no advertising SDK, analytics, account, payment, or synchronization service.

Information stored on your device

Drain stores the website hostnames you choose for automatic activation, your enabled or disabled preferences, and optional hostname-level usage totals in the browser extension's local storage.

Usage totals may include activation counts, bypass counts, and foreground-visible time while a configured website is drained or temporarily bypassed. Drain does not create a general browsing-history log.

Information the extensions do not collect

Drain does not record or transmit page paths, queries, titles, page text, form values, messages, cookies, or browsing outside configured sites.

Drain has no analytics, telemetry, advertising, behavioral profiling, account, payment, synchronization, or remote-configuration service in Chrome or Firefox. It does not sell or monetize browsing data. All executable code, styles, fonts, and icons are packaged with the extensions.

How Chrome and Firefox permissions are used

  • Active tab: Identifies the current website when you choose automatic activation from the toolbar.
  • Scripting: Applies Drain's packaged grayscale behavior to a selected website.
  • Optional website access: Requested one main website at a time and includes its subdomains so common redirects continue to work.
  • Storage: Keeps settings and optional usage totals on the device.

Removing an automatic target also asks Chrome or Firefox to remove the website access Drain requested for it.

Your browser controls

You can pause statistics or permanently clear usage history in Settings. You can remove access for an individual website, disable Drain, or uninstall the extension through Chrome or Firefox at any time. Uninstalling removes extension-managed local data according to the browser's extension-data behavior.

Version 0.6.0 and future changes

Version 0.6.0 does not offer Pro features or payments. An installation updated from a development preview may retain inactive preview configuration locally so an update does not destroy user-created settings; the free release does not activate, synchronize, or transmit that data.

Any future Chrome or Firefox release that introduces payments, accounts, synchronization, or other data transmission will update this policy and the applicable browser-store disclosures before that functionality is released.
